CNC MOVE GUIDE · PUBLISHED 14 AUGUST 2026

Planning a CNC machine move using a 3D facility scan.

A good move plan connects the shipping configuration, route, destination, installation requirements and production reality. A planning-grade mobile SLAM LiDAR capture gives the team a shared facility record for that coordination.

Capture the route and destination together

A machine can fit at the destination and still fail to reach it. The capture scope should include unloading or staging areas where relevant, the intended route, turns, doorways, overhead conditions, floor transitions and the final orientation area.

Record surrounding production and temporary conditions that could change before the move. The facility twin is a dated record, not a live promise that the route will remain clear.

Use the workflow Capture → Evaluate → Plan → Coordinate → Move

Capture the relevant existing conditions. Evaluate the exact equipment and route information. Plan workable options. Coordinate the responsible specialists. Move only after critical assumptions and execution requirements have been verified.

  • Confirm shipping splits, lifting points and centre-of-gravity information with the machine supplier.
  • Confirm route, floor loading, rigging method and staging with the qualified rigger.
  • Confirm foundations, utilities, guarding and compliance with the responsible specialists.
  • Protect production, people and the schedule with a documented shutdown and contingency plan.

Keep planning evidence and execution authority separate

The facility scan improves shared context and can reduce repeated walkthroughs, but it does not authorize the move. The team should record which dimensions and assumptions were verified, by whom, with which method and at what stage.

That distinction makes the facility twin more credible: it supports decisions without pretending to replace the specialists responsible for safe execution.

Frequently asked questions

How early should the scan happen?

Before the move route, rigging quotation, destination and shutdown plan are finalized, with enough time to resolve conflicts.

Can the same capture be reused?

Yes, while the recorded areas remain materially unchanged and the stated capture date, version, inclusions and exclusions remain clear.

Does the scan verify floor loading or structural capacity?

No. Structural capacity and load paths require the appropriate records, investigation and qualified engineering review.
